Laura smiled, “That’s okay. What about Hunger Games?”
Taylor took the bottle after her offer. Instead of just standing there, she perched back onto the side and opened the cupboard beside her, rummaging through some packets of food for some movie snacks. Surely they’d have something?
At the mention of England, she felt a wave of nostalgia and home-sick wash over her. “Are you from the UK, then?”
"Yeah! I’ve not seen that yet, infact I think we’ve got the second one here too so we can have like a marathon! Oh dude, best snacks are in the top cupboard, Charlie tries to hide ‘em" Taylor grinned and reached up to open the cupboard for her, gesturing to the fancy chocolate and whatnot that was in there. "Me? Nah, my mom is though and my little sister Alice is adopted, she’s originally from England too and when she first got here she couldn’t stand to drink the fanta ‘cause it was such a crazy colour"
Noon is a perfectly acceptable time to be asleep.
Whoa boy, want me to through a bone or something?
Get up Mel! C’monnnn!
Laura held the smile in at his response. It meant it was one less night to spend away from all the memories and voices, telling her to do something stupid.
"Nothing soppy or romantic.. I can’t stand that stuff. I’m more into horrors and dramas, I guess. What about you?" she asked, hopping off the counter.
While waiting for a response, she found a glass and filled it with some fizzy orange before holding it up to Taylor, offering it to him silently.
"I’m a wuss and a dork- not really a fan of horrors but anything dramatic or action-y or superhero…y is pretty cool" Taylor laughed, rubbing the back of his neck- usually guys tended to get at him a bit about the horrow movie thing but he doubted Laura would care much. "Oh dude, fizzy orange right, here’s a thing- you know how it’s so orange?" Taylor laughed again, happily taking the glass and a sip before he continued "obviously, but like, in England it’s waaay less orange, usually more like of a yellow colour? But here they put way more shit in it to make it this crazy like toxic waste orange colour!"
Then why did you wake me, my dear Taylor?
Because it’s noon!
and i’m boooored!
Laura smiled, taking another bite of the cookie. Since she’d been at Havenwood, only Taylor and Amelia had really given her a chance. Well, others would have to if they hadn’t have encountered her whilst she was drunk. That didn’t go down too well.
"I’ll have to keep an eye out for her."
They kept munching on in silence, Laura noticing how awkward it was for her. Whenever she noticed it was awkward, it was most likely not for the the other person. It just worked like that for her.
"Would you uh.. wanna do something tonight? I mean, if you’re free. We could uh.. watch a movie, or something." she rambled on.
"Yeah man! I usually end up watching movies alone ‘cause I reckon I talk too much through them and people just get pissed but I just geek out too much and then I can’t shutup" Taylor laughed- he knew his attitude got on peoples nerves sometimes but it did very little to dampen his spirit- he was just an enthusiastic guy.
"What sorta movies you into?" He questioned- Taylor would watch anything- so he didn’t really mind what it was, he was just happy to have someone so cool to hang out with.
It’s only noon… It is noon, isn’t it?
Yes mellow mel, it’s noon
Laura hesitated, smiling and taking the item of food into her hand. Like any other cautious child, the cookie was raised to her nose. A sniff indicated it wasn’t poisoned, the cookie being nibbled on as she looked up.
"This is actually good." she mumbled through a mouthful, "Better than you poisoning me."
Another bite of the cookie was taken, hoisting herself onto the counter as she sat and slightly swung her legs.
"I’ll have to thank the cook. And of course, your for introducing me to them."
"Why would I be poisoning you?" Taylor wondered outloud, picking a second cookie up off the tray "yeah! Princess makes ‘em all the time, she’s great- hard to miss her, she’s blonde, usually has cookies with her" He grinned "she’s like my best friend here, she’s really nice" Taylor remembered when he’d first gotten here- surrounded by strangers Princess had been one of the first to say hello, make him feel at home.
The girl smiled a little as she listened, realising how strong he must be to admit that and fight through the sadness. Even if he had a little distress in his life, he still had a right to feel upset about it. If it were Laura, her depression would be brought on simply because she ran out of milk; she wasn’t strong, emotionally, mentally or physically.
"I thought people like you were a myth, you know." she admitted, following his figure into the kitchen.
"People like me?" Taylor wuestioned with a laugh as he bounded through the facility to the kitchen "happy people?" It made him sad to think Laura thought happy people were a myth… what sort of people did she surround herself with usually if that was the case?
Taylor spotted the tray of freshly baked cookies on the side counter and grabbed two, holding one out to Laura “oh my god, seriously, you’re gonna love it”
"That’s really nice of her," Nathan mused.
He wished he could see what was happening back home. He wanted to see if they gave him a proper funeral. What his parents thought when they found his body. What the other kids at school did when they realized that he - that Nathan had been - he pushed the thought away. “So you’re allowed to contact your family?”
"Yeah, I skype with them like all the time- mom makes me call at least once a week or she gets mad"
